I played Icewind Dale I years ago when it first came out, but for some reason I never did get the expansion or the second in the series. So fast forward to the now and I see a good deal on the game through e-bay and decide "why not?" It had been long enough where I figured the first game would be like new and the second would be a lot of fun. Turns out, I've been spoiled by later RPG games with their better graphics and wider varitey. I didn't make it through the first chapter of Icewind Dale I and am slogging through II; finishing it is more a point of getting somethign for my money, rather than any great deal of enjoyment. The game itself isn't bad; it is just the game environment that feels like I've slipped a quarter in an old Astroids game and am plugging away at breaking rocks. If you don't mind the dated graphics, this is not a bad game. If you are a fan of the new AD&D rules, Icewind I is not going to be as much fun as Icewind II, which uses later rules (though not the latest). Enjoy.Read full review
The game Icewind Dale is a great series of games. For one, it offers a character customization process that is very rare to find in games now a days. Granted it is from the D&D realms, but one major dislike in the first Icewind Dale, was the dice rolled traits. I didn't like too much, it made your character too weak. However they did make up for this in Icewind Dale II where you can increase your stats gradually as you leveled up or through potions. Also I did like the character potraits...but the process to get your own pics on there was a long and agonizing process. However, other than that this was a great game and I would recomend it for first time RPGers out there. Personally could've seen some further advancements in the graphics in two...but the creators made up for this with an amazing story plot and an amazing soundtrack. I give this game a 5 out of 5.Read full review

The Icewind Dale Ult Edition, with Icewind Date 2, represents the finest in 2D isometric RPGs. The last of the Infinity Engine games, it takes the originally ADND 2nd ed. rules to the 3E with good results. It is highly moddable, and mods that convert Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 in the 3E using the IW2 engine are one prime example. Even in today's world of MMORPGs and high dynamic range graphics, this is still a gem.
It is a fun amazing gane experience!
